It is no longer enough to simply remove a tooth without regard for how the site will ultimately heal. With the advent of new instruments and techniques, preservation of bone and gum tissue is the goal. After tooth removal, bone quickly begins to atrophy. This can affect the ability to later place an implant or even obtain acceptable esthetics under a bridge. Much of this can be prevented by filling extraction sites with a bone replacement graft at the time of extraction. In other situations where considerable bone is already missing from previous extractions, more extensive grafts may be required. Dr. Rosenfeld has the training and experience to perform these grafts with expertise.
